Rajasthan: A unique case has come to light from Rajasthan.  Purkharam, who lives in the Nagaur district of Jodhpur, sleeps for 300 days a year. The family members feed and bathe him while he is asleep. 42-year-old Purkharam is suffering from a very rare disease Axis Hypersomnia.

According to doctors, it is a rare psychological disease seen in very few people across the world.

Purkharam, who lives in the Bhadwa village of Parbatsar subdivision of Nagaur district, sleeps over a period of 25 days. His disease came to light about 23 years ago. Locals call him kumbhakarna of the village.

Purkharam's grocery store opens only for five days

Purkharam has his own grocery store but due to the disorder, he can open the shop only five days a month. According to Purkharam's family, he slept continuously for 5 to 7 days at the beginning of the disease, though they still had to work hard to wake him. Distressed by this, Purkharam's family took him to the doctor.

The family members said that initially, no doctor understood the reason for his sleep. Over time, his sleep time gradually increased. Now the situation has become such that after sleeping once, Purkharam continues to sleep for 25 consecutive days.

Eating and bathing happens in sleep

Purkharam told that "headache starts a day before and he comes to know that now it is time for him to sleep. Once I sleep, it becomes very difficult for me to wake up. Family members feed me in my sleep. Also, my bath happens in my sleep. However, when I'm hungry, I can't sleep."

Purkharam told that "I have woken up yesterday after 12 days of sleep. My wife Lichmi Devi woke me up after a lot of effort." He said, "Other than this, I do not have any other problem. I also try to wake up by myself during sleep but don't know why I can't get up even after many tries. I tried to get it treated at many places but to no avail."

What is Axis Hypersomnia?

According to Dr. BR Jangid, Axis Hypersomnia is a very rare psychological disease. In which the patient sleeps for a long time. If someone has an old tumor or head injury in his head, he may also have a similar disease.
