'Uproot Those Laying Spikes In Path Of Farmers': Rahul Gandhi Slams Centre Over Fortification Of Delhi, Haryana

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the government's 'failure' to fulfill promises such as doubling farmers' income and ensuring Minimum Support Price (MSP).

New Delhi: In the lead-up to the proposed 'Delhi Chalo' march by farmers, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Modi government over barricading and laying of nails on roads near the city's borders. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in a Hindi post, accused PM Modi of deceiving farmers over the past decade. He criticised the government's alleged failure to fulfill promises such as doubling farmers' income and ensuring Minimum Support Price (MSP).

He also highlighted the dire circumstances faced by farmers, including mounting debts and high rates of suicide.

Rahul posted on X, saying, "Modi, who 'cultivates lies' day and night, has only cheated farmers in the last 10 years. Promising doubling of their income, Modi also made farmers struggle for MSP (Minimum Support Price)".

"Due to them not getting fair prices for their crops and burdened with inflation, farmers' debts increased by 60 per cent. As a result, about 30 farmers lost their lives every day. The one whose USP is deception, can only do politics with farmers in the name of MSP, not justice," he remarked.

Rahul Gandhi urged people to uproot those from Delhi who put nails in the path of farmers. "The ones laying spikes in the path of farmers are not worthy of trust; uproot them from Delhi. Congress will ensure justice and profit for the farmers," he remarked in the post.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also vehemently criticised the BJP government for handling the situation. Priyanka's criticism extended to the government's failure to fulfill promises made to farmers, including the enactment of a law guaranteeing Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce and the doubling of farmers' incomes.

As per PTI, authorities have enforced prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in Delhi's northeast district in view of the farmers' march on February 13. This legal measure, aimed at preventing large gatherings, seeks to maintain law and order during the anticipated protest.

Organised by approximately 200 farm unions, the forthcoming march is expected to witness a substantial turnout of farmers primarily from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab.
