QS University Ranking 2022: IIT Kharagpur Named One Of The Top Varsities In The World

The institute placed 37th in mineral and mining engineering in 2022, up from 44th in 2021, and 80th in electrical and electronic engineering, up from 90th in 2021. 

New Delhi: IIT Kharagpur has been designated one of the world's top institutions for the study of numerous engineering topics, according to the most recent edition of the QS World University Ranking, news agency PTI reported.

As per the IIT Kharagpur press release, the institute placed 37th in mineral and mining engineering in 2022, up from 44th in 2021, and 80th in electrical and electronic engineering, up from 90th in 2021. 

"In engineering and technology, which are the domains of the pioneering institute, it ranked 101st in the world and third in India, as per the 12th QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 announced on April 6," the release was quoted by PTI in its report.

"In the QS ranking, IIT Kharagpur has been ranked among India's top three domestically. It was placed in the first position in respect of statistics and operational research, besides in agriculture and forestry and in the second position in mineral and mining engineering, environmental sciences, economics and econometrics. The institute was placed in the third position in engineering and technology, computer science and information systems, chemical engineering, besides accounting and finance," the release further reads.

In response to the QS Rankings, Prof V K Tewari, the institute's director, stated, "IIT Kharagpur stands out from other IITs with its multi-disciplinary mandate to shift its education curriculum to a knowledge economy while emphasising on skill development and entrepreneurship."

According to a university official, Jadavpur University was placed fifth among the finest Indian universities within the top 500 internationally in arts and humanities in the QS World University Rankings by Subjects 2022.

Along with Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, and IIT Mumbai, Jadavpur University and IIT Delhi are ranked in the top 401-450 in the world.

According to the spokesman, Jadavpur University is the first state university in India to be listed in the QS World University Rankings in the arts and humanities in 2022.
