New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 400th Parkash Purab of Sikh guru Tegh Bahadur on April 21, the Culture Ministry said Monday.

Along with PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also be attending the ceremony that will be held on April 20-21.

Amit Shah will kick off the programme on April 20. It will include a light and sound performance as well as a Shabad Kirtan led by youngsters.

The Ministry of Culture will organise the event in partnership with the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.

The festivities will include chief ministers from numerous states as well as other notable individuals from around the subcontinent and overseas, according to the statement.

The Shabad Kirtan will be performed by 400 Ragis at the occasion.

A Ragi is a musician who performs hymns (shabads) in various ragas as instructed by the Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

This event commemorates the 400th Parkash Purab (birth anniversary) of Sikh guru Tegh Bahadur as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

In 1621, Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh guru, was born in Amritsar. In 1675, Mughal ruler Aurangzeb had him killed in Delhi.

The famous Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib, located near the Red Fort, was erected on the site where Guru Tegh Bahadur was executed.
