PM Modi Speaks To Olympian Aman Sehrawat After Bronze Win: 'Aapne Desh Ko Bohot Diya Hai' — WATCH

Wrestler Aman Sehrawat won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics after defeating Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz in the 57 kg freestyle wrestling event.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated the wrestler Aman Sehrawat in a phone call for securing a bronze medal at the ongoing Paris Olympics. Aman beat, Darian Cruz, the Puerto Rico wrestler to clinch the bronze medal in the 57 kg freestyle wrestling event at the game on Friday.

In the video released by ANI, PM Modi praised his inspirational journey from overcoming personal hardships, including the loss of his parents, to reaching the Olympic podium. He highlighted Aman's dedication, noting how he made the Chhatrasal Stadium his home and became the youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal. The Prime Minister expressed confidence in Aman's bright future, saying he would continue to bring joy to the country.

Later, Aman thanked the PM for his support, attributing his success to the nation and the government's efforts, saying, "This is all due to the support of my countrymen and your hard work."

Aman Vows To Strive For Top Prize At Los Angeles 2028 Olympics

Although Aman expressed disappointment at not winning the gold, he vowed to strive for the top prize at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. In response, PM Modi said, "Leave aside the gold, silver, and bronze medals. You have given the country a lot already and they are taking your name with pride."

Aman Sehrawat, in his Olympic debut, secured a bronze medal with a 13-5 victory over Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz, marking his first wrestling medal at the Paris 2024 Games for India. 

During the wrestling match, the Puerto Rican grappler took the lead early in the bout after scoring a point via a single-leg hold. But Aman was back, and he scored points by going after Darian Cruz's shoulders.

Aman regained control after Darian Cruz made a two-point move to take the lead. With 37 seconds remaining, Darian Cruz made a last-ditch attempt and lost another point to Aman, who gained more points and won the fight technically. India now has six medals from the Olympics in Paris, including five bronze, one silver, and one bronze.sports
