Modi Speaks To UAE Prez, UK PM Sunak On Terrorism, Civilian Deaths In West Asia Amid Israel-Hamas War
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed about "terrorism, deteriorating security situation and loss of civilian lives" in West Asia amid the Israel-Hamas war.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a telephone discussion on Friday with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed, during which the leaders expressed deep concerns regarding the current situation in West Asia. They focused on issues such as terrorism, the deteriorating security scenario, and the loss of civilian lives in the region. In a post on social media, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that both leaders were in agreement on the need for an early resolution to the security and humanitarian situation.
They emphasised the significance of establishing a durable regional peace, which would contribute to the security and stability of the entire region.
PM Modi stated, "Had a good conversation with my brother HH @MohamedBinZayed, President of UAE, on the West Asia situation. We share deep concerns at the terrorism, deteriorating security situation and loss of civilian lives. We agree on the need for early resolution of the security and humanitarian situation and that a durable regional peace, security and stability is in everyone’s interest."
Following this, PM Modi also spoke to his UK counterpart Rishi Sunak where both exchange views on developments in West Asia and the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
"Earlier this evening, spoke to UK PM Rishi Sunak. Discussed means to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanged views on the situation in West Asia. We agree that there is no place for terror and violence. Death of civilians is a serious concern. Need to work towards regional peace, security, stability and continued humanitarian assistance," PM Modi posted.
This conversation between the two leaders comes at a crucial time amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. They also reiterated their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors within the framework of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Israel is currently engaged in a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, aimed at countering Hamas militants. Hamas had carried out attacks on several Israeli cities on October 7, leading to an escalation in the conflict.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was on a visit to the region for the second time in less than a month, appealed to Israel on Friday to take measures to protect civilians in Gaza, news agency Reuters reported. The Israeli military reported that its troops were engaged in close-quarter combat with Hamas militants in the streets of Gaza City as they sought to neutralise the Islamist group's presence in the densely populated region, as per Reuters.
