PM Modi Congratulates Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar After Swearing Is As CM, Deputy CM Of Karnataka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai extended their heartiest congratulations to Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar on becoming Chief Minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday congratulated Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, who were sworn in as Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of the state respectively after their party crossed the majority mark in the recently held state assembly elections. A total of eight MLAs were also sworn in as Ministers along with these two party veterans. The Congress had registered a thumping victory in May 10 polls, where the party won 135 out of 224 seats whereas the ruling BJP was reduced to 66 seats.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi said, “Congratulations to Siddaramaiah on taking oath as Karnataka CM and DK Shivakumar on taking oath as Deputy CM. My best wishes for a fruitful tenure.”

Apart from him, former CM Basavaraj Bommai also extended his heartiest congratulation to his successor Siddaramaiah upon taking oath as the new Chief Minister.

Congress veteran Siddaramaiah was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka for the second term on Saturday afternoon at Bengaluru's Kanteerava Stadium. Along with him, Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar also took oath as the deputy CM of the southern state. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath taking ceremony. 

Along with the CM and the Deputy CM, eight MLAs also took the oath as state ministers today. The names include Dr. G Parameshwara, KH Muniyappa, KJ George, MB Patil, Satish Jarkiholi, PriyankKharge (son of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge), Ramalinga Reddy, and BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan.

The top brass of the Congress party including the Gandhi family members - Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, party's national president Mallikarjun Kharge were also present on the occasion.

The Chief Ministers of the Congress-ruled states including Himachal CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, and Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel also attended the event.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his Deputy Tejashwi Yadav, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Farooq Abdullah were also present during the swearing-in ceremony.
