PM Modi Birthday HIGHLIGHTS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 72 on Saturday as birthday greetings poured in from across the world, wishing the BJP leader on this special occassion. Modi was born on September 17, 1950, in a Gujarati family to Damodardas Mulchand Modi and Heeraben Modi. He is the 3rd out of the six children of Heeraben and Damodardas Modi.
Since being elected Prime Minister in 2014, Narendra Modi has celebrated every birthday in a very unique way. The prime minister has often travelled to Gujarat on his birthday to seek the blessings of his mother Heeraben.
This year, PM Modi has a packed schedule on his birthday and will launch a plethora of projects in different sectors. The most notable of all the projects is the release of eight cheetahs brought from Namibia in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park.
Besides, BJP has lined up several events for the special day. Social activities like blood donation camps, free health check-up camps, adoption of TB patients are some of the events planned by BJP across the country. A restaurant in Delhi will be serving a '56-inch thali' for 10 days to commemorate PM Modi's birthday.
After releasing cheetahs, PM Modi will take part in a plantation programme at Karahal in Sheopur district and later arrive in a local school to participate in a conference of women self-help groups (SHGs).
After a brief stay in Gwalior, PM Modi will leave for New Delhi in the afternoon. The Prime Minister will then address students at the first-ever convocation of students from ITIs on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti. Around 40 lakh students will join this programme.
A more significant event is scheduled in the evening when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the National Logistics Policy of the country, aimed at promoting seamless movement of goods across the country.

"PM Modi's birthday is being celebrated as 'National Unemployment Day' by the country's youth. He promised to provide about two crore jobs annually, but instead only seven lakh people have been given employment in the last eight years," said Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate.
Dalai Lama Wishes PM Modi, Prays For His Good Health
Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama wished Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 72nd birthday on Saturday and prayed for his good health.
In a letter to Modi, the Dalai Lama offered his good wishes and prayers for the prime minister's good health. He also extolled India's efforts in meeting the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. “It's wonderful that India has successfully met the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Although we have not seen the complete end to it, India today is better placed to address similar challenges in the future. “As the longest-staying guest in India, I have observed its development first hand. Now the country is also a rising economic power and a leader in science and technology," he stated in the letter.
"I am delighted to say India is poised to assume its rightful place in the world," he said.
