Fuel Prices Hiked After Almost 4 Months, Petrol To Cost Over Rs 96/L In Delhi

This price hike could be seen as a repercussion of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

New Delhi: A day after the hike in diesel prices for bulk users, petrol and diesel prices for retail users have also increased across the country.

From Tuesday, the price of petrol and diesel to be charged from consumers in Delhi is Rs 96.21 per litre & Rs 87.47 per litre, respectively.

Similarly, other metropolitans have also seen a price hike. The cost of petrol in Mumbai is Rs 110.82 per litre. Diesel will cost Rs 95.00 per litre.

Consumers in Kolkata have to pay Rs 105.51 for petrol and Rs 90.62 for diesel. In Chennai, the price of petrol has reached Rs 102.16, while diesel will cost Rs 92.19.

The price hike comes after a freeze of almost four months. The prices of petrol and diesel were hiked in November 2021, as per news agency Reuters.

In November 2021, the centre had cut excise duty to provide relief to the users as the petrol prices had reached an all-time high. The government had slashed the duty on petrol by ₹ 5 per litre and diesel by ₹ 10 a litre which led to a huge relief to the consumers.

This price hike could be seen as a repercussion of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine that has led to a rise in global crude oil prices.

On Sunday, the price of diesel was hiked by Rs 25 for bulk users like bus fleet operators and malls.

After the hike, the bulk users queued up outside petrol pumps rather than buying directly from oil companies.
