Canadian-Bound Passenger Carries Baby Crocodile Skull In Flight, Held At Delhi Airport
A skull wrapped in a cream-colored cloth was found in the luggage of the passenger during the investigation. The skull featured sharp teeth and a jaw-like structure, weighing approximately 777 grams.
A passenger travelling from Delhi to Canada was arrested for possessing a baby crocodile skull at Indira Gandhi International Airport's Terminal 3 on Monday. Customs officials, acting on suspicion during a security check around 5 p.m., discovered the skull wrapped in a cream-colored cloth in the passenger's luggage.
As per NDTV report, a skull wrapped in a cream-colored cloth was found in the luggage of the passenger during the investigation. The skull featured sharp teeth and a jaw-like structure, weighing approximately 777 grams. The passenger was detained under Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962.
Skull Belongs To Baby Crocodile
An initial analysis by the Department of Forests and Wildlife, Delhi Government, confirmed the skull belonged to a baby crocodile, a Schedule I protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. For precise species identification, the skull will be sent to the Wildlife Institute of India in Dehradun.
The Customs officials stated that the passenger violated both provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and the Customs Act, 1962. Consequently, a case has been registered against him under Sections 132, 133, 135, 135A, and 136 of the Customs Act. The passenger was scheduled to board Air Canada flight AC 051 to Canada.
