Partition Horrors Remembrance Day: PM Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Recall 'Inhuman Chapter Of Indian History'

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day: On Sunday, PM Modi along with Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and various other leaders paid tribute to all those who died during Partition.

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is observed in India on August 14. On Sunday, PM Modi along with Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and various other leaders paid tribute to all those who died during Partition.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi stated, "Today, on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, I pay homage to all those who lost their lives during Partition , and applaud the resilience as well as grit of all those who suffered during that tragic period of our history."

PM Modi designated August 14 to be "Partition Horrors Remembrance Day" in his Independence Day speech last year.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, also recalled the miseries of people during partition, when hundreds of thousands were displaced following the establishment of Pakistan.

"The partition of the country in 1947 is that inhuman chapter of Indian history which can never be forgotten. The violence and hatred of Partition claimed millions of lives and displaced innumerable people. Today, on 'Partition Vibhishika Memorial Day', I bow to lakhs of people who suffered the brunt of Partition," Shah tweeted.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid respect to those who died during partition and offered condolences to their families.

Taking to Twitter, Singh said, "On 'Partition Vibhishika Memorial Day', I pay my tributes by remembering all those people who lost their lives during the partition of the country. Salute to those who made a new beginning despite not being able to forget the pain of Partition. This country will never forget the horrors of Partition."

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the partition as one of the "darkest events in Indian history," saying it delivered a devastating blow to "Akhand Bharat," or undivided India.

“One of the darkest moments in Indian history, Partition wreaked havoc upon millions of countrymen & dealt mighty blow to Akhand Bharat. On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, I recall the sufferings of people resulting from evil machinations of British Raj & newly-formed Pakistan,” he said in a tweet.

Paying tribute to those who lost their lives during Partition, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath stated: "Lakhs of innocent civilians lost their lives and crores of citizens suffered inhuman suffering during the sad Partition of India due to the destructive religious mindset."

Partition Of India

In the weeks and months around August 15, 1947, the partition of India into India and Pakistan resulted in severe bloodshed and communal violence, property loss, and significant instability. The Partition is often regarded as one of the most violent and rapid displacements in human history.

"More than being a story of a violent divide based on faith and religion it is also a story of how a way of life and ages of co-existence came to a sudden and dramatic end.” Estimates of the numbers of those killed vary; according to the official document, it could be between 500,000 to over a million, but “the generally accepted figure stands at around 500,000," reads the official document issued by the center to commemorate Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.
