In an official statement, the veteran officers of armed forces of India said, "It is unbelievably shocking, and categorically unacceptable for the veterans of Armed Forces of India, to suffer as helpless victims of hooliganism in Mumbai, as has been experienced in the case of Navy Veteran Madan Sharma, having been brutally beaten up for a triviality by Shiv-Sena activists, causing grievous injuries, trauma and loss of honour to the Veteran at his Mumbai residential complex."

The veteran officials further condemn the fact that justice has been denied in an organized conspiracy to attack and degrade Armed Forces Veterans and their families by clearly playing soft upon the criminals on account of their political affiliations.

"It is time for the nation to remember the service of the Armed Force Veterans, and to renew our nationalist spirit to respect our solemn obligations to them. They have sacrificed their everything in their youth so that all Indians can live safely and prosper in their lives. We must ensure the dignity, honour and safety of these veterans and commit to make it the highest priority for every Indian national. The devotion and gallantry with which all of them glorified our nation does not entitle them to such dastardly physical attacks as Veteran Madan Sharma has suffered," the statement added.

More than 600 Retired Army Officers have signed the statement. So far, the statement has been signed by senior officials including Air chief Marshal - Pradeep Naik; three Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha, A.R. Karve and J.S Bedi; five Air marshal S.P. Singh, P.K. Roy, Dushyant Singh, R.C. Bajpai and Sumit Mukherji.

In addition to this, 44 Major General including Rear Admiral and Air Vice Marshal have also extended their support. 40 Commodore, 38 Brigadier and 40 Lt Gen level officers have also signed the statement. As said in a statement, the officials are still getting the endorsement of other officers.
