Odisha: After Sponsoring Indian Hockey Teams, Patnaik Govt To Build 89 Multipurpose Stadiums

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Naveen Patnaik. These stadiums will be constructed in the next 18 months.

Odisha: The government of Odisha has decided to provide better facilities and infrastructure for sports in the state at a cost of Rs. 693.35 crores. The state has decided to build 89 multipurpose indoor stadiums. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The state government has said that the construction of these stadiums will be completed in the next 18 months. Also during epidemics and disasters, these stadiums can be converted into hospitals as per requirement.

These 89 multipurpose indoor stadiums will be constructed In all urban areas. They will be created so that players can be prepared to hoist the country's glory internationally. It is to be noted that, the Odisha government is also the official sponsor of both the Men's and Women's Hockey Teams of India. At the same time, it is through the efforts of the State Government that the 2018 Hockey World Cup Was held in Bhubaneswar. 

Let us inform you, India's men's and women's hockey teams that went to the Tokyo Olympics CM Naveen Patnaik had a video call with them and congratulated them for their brilliant performance. He encouraged them for the future as well.

Stadiums to be built under Sports Infrastructure Development Projects 

As per the decision of the State Government within 18 month period, 693.35 crores will be invested for these indoor stadiums as they are being built under sports infrastructure development projects. In these stadiums, BadmintonTable tennisYogagymnasium, etc. will be available. Indoor stadiums too have been designed to withstand 200 km of wind speed per hour. Indoor stadiums will also have the facility to train students in yoga and other physical exercises. Professional coaching will be provided at the grass-root level.

Stadiums will be used during cyclonesNatural disasters like floods, etc. as relief centers. At present, the Construction of the largest hockey stadium at Rourkela in Odisha is underway.

Odisha Fisheries Minister Arun Sahu said, "Building a multipurpose indoor stadium was our dream. I want to thank the CM for this." State Science and Technology Minister Ashok Panda said, "The chief minister has approved the setting up of an indoor stadium in Bhubaneswar. We requested the chief minister and sent him an application and he responded to it for approval in the cabinet. That's why we're gathered here today."
