'How Low Will You Stoop': PM Modi Slams Opposition Over Nitish Kumar's Sex-Ed Remark

PM Modi hit out at the Opposition for their "silence" over Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's "derogatory language against women".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday slammed Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for using ‘derogatory' language against women. He also questioned the I.N.D.I.A block parties over their "silence" on the matter. Without naming Nitish Kumar, PM Modi said: "A big leader of the I.N.D.I Alliance used unimaginable language on the floor of the Bihar Assembly. He is not ashamed. And not a single leader of the I.N.D.I Alliance has spoken out against this humiliation of women."

He said that leaders who have such a mentality towards women can never work for their welfare. "Can they protect the honour of our mothers and daughters," he asked the people gathered to listen to him at a public meeting in Madhya Pradesh's Guna.

PM Modi said: "No leader of the ghamandiya [arrogant] alliance said a single word against it. These people are dishonoring the country in the world. Can people who think this way about women do anything good for you? Kitne neeche giroge? Aur Duniya mein desh ki beizzati kara rahe ho [How low will you stoop? You are tarnishing the country's name]."

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar landed in a controversy after he used graphic details about matrimonial union in his assembly speech to highlight the importance of women's education. He apologised for his comments after sharp reactions from various quarters.

However, Janata Dal (United) president Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh sought to defend him. Singh said: "What objectionable statement has he given? Everyone knows that one marries off their children to carry forward their lineage. So the CM had also said the same, What is the problem with this? Only those who do not get anything, look for such controversies."

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, too, sought to defend Kumar on Tuesday arguing that his comments were in the context of sex education and should not be misinterpreted. "It is wrong to misinterpret [the CM's remarks]. His statement was regarding sex education, which people feel shy and hesitant to talk about. Biology is taught in schools. What he meant to say was on how to control population," Yadav said.

A complaint has now been filed against the Bihar Chief Minister at the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Muzaffarpur for his "objectionable remarks.
