Nitish Kumar Visits Lalu Yadav In Delhi, Likely To Meet Kharge And Sonia Gandhi

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar arrived in Delhi on Tuesday and met with RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar arrived in Delhi on Tuesday and met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. Kumar is also likely to meet leaders of Opposition parties in an attempt to forge an alliance to take on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The meeting between the two Bihar politicians came on the same day that Kumar's deputy and Lalu's son Tejashwi Yadav appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in a money laundering case related to the alleged land-for-jobs scam.

After arriving in the national capital, Kumar went to Misa Bharti's house, where Lalu Prasad is staying. Kumar went up to Lalu Prasad and inquired about his health.

The Bihar chief minister is also expected to meet with Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. Kumar has previously urged all opposition parties, including the Congress, to work together to defeat the ruling party in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

During the chief minister's visit to Delhi, Bihar BJP chief Samrat Choudhary stated that "Kumar's dream of becoming prime minister will never come true because the people of the country believe in PM Narendra Modi and his leadership. There is no unity among the opposition leaders at all," PTI reported.

Kumar, on the other hand, has stated repeatedly that he has no desire to become Prime Minister.

Kumar visited Delhi in September of last year, where he met Sharad Pawar, Arvind Kejriwal, D Raja, Sitaram Yechuri, and Akhilesh Yadav.

A "united front" could reduce the BJP to less than 100 seats, Kumar said in February at the 11th general convention of the CPI(ML-L), which has extended outside support to the Kumar-led Mahagathbandhan government.

On Sunday, JD(U) national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh aka Lalan Singh hosted a lunch for over 25,000 Mahagathbandhan workers from the JD(U), RJD, Congress, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), CPI, CPI (Marxist), and CPI (ML-Liberation).

The lunch was held in Pokhar Par village, which lies on the border of the Barh and Mokama Assembly segments and is part of the Munger Lok Sabha constituency that he represents. Barh was also a former Lok Sabha constituency represented by Nitish Kumar, the Indian Express reported.
