20 Newborns Rescued After Fire Breaks Out In Delhi Hospital

The fire broke out in the basement of the building which was a ground-plus-three-storey structure. No casualty has been reported.

Twenty newborn babies were rescued after a fire broke out at a hospital in west Delhi’s Vaishali Colony in the early hours of Friday, said the fire department. At least nine fire tenders of Delhi Fire Service had reached the spot to put out the fire and rescue all 20 newborns, they were then shifted to nearby hospitals. The fire broke out in the basement of the building which was a ground-plus-three-storey structure. No casualty has been reported. 

According to ANI, Atul Garg the Director of the Delhi Fire Service said that around 1:35 am they received a call about a fire in a hospital. After sending 4 fire tenders they got a call to send more fire tenders as the lanes were narrow, thereafter the fire was extinguished and the children were rescued and sent to different hospitals. 

 “We received a call at 1.35 am that a fire broke out at a hospital. We sent four fire tenders first. They told us that there are 20 newborns there and they are facing difficulty as the lane is narrow. We sent about four more fire tenders. We reached there on time and the fire was extinguished. All the children were sent to different hospitals after being rescued”, Garg told ANI.

He further added “Nobody was injured”. He stated that the hospital did not have a fire NOC and that further investigation will be carried out into the matter. 

“They didn't have a fire NOC, the hospital was just one floor. Further investigation will be done”, said Garg. 

The Police added that out of the 20 newborns, 13 were shifted to Arya Hospital Janakpuri, and two to the Dwarka More Newborn Child Hospital. Two were shifted to JK Hospital Janakpuri and three newborn babies were discharged from the Newborn child hospital in Vaishali.
