Mundra Heroin Seizure: NIA Arrests Two Key Accused In 3,000 Kg Drug Bust Case

Both Talwar and Sharma are reportedly part of an international syndicate that had smuggled large quantities of heroin from Afghanistan to India using maritime route.

The National Investigative Agency (NIA) has arrested two key accused in connection with a massive drug bust amounting to seizure of nearly 3,000 kg of heroin from Gujarat's Mundra port in September last year. The NIA on Wednesday carried out multiple raids in several states of the country. According to news agency PTI, the two arrested accused, identified as Harpreet Singh Talwar alias Kabir Talwar and Prince Sharma, are residents of Delhi.

Both Talwar and Sharma are reportedly part of an international syndicate that had smuggled large quantities of heroin from Afghanistan to India using maritime route, PTI quoted NIA spokesperson as saying.

Both the accused were arrested from the national capital, NIA said adding that the actions were taken on the basis of investigation done so far and incriminating evidence obtained during the raids.

Talwar, who is the alleged kingpin as per the NIA, was identified as a social media influencer and owner of several pubs in Delhi such as White Club Delhi, the PlayBoy Club, the Jazbaa Lounge, the RSVP Club, The Velvet Room, and LIT Lounge & Bar.

NIA further informed that the duo involved in the smuggling of heroin through import consignments from Afghanistan using the sea route. Import consignments of commodities such as semi-processed talc and bituminous coal were used to conceal the heroin.

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 2,988 kg of heroin at the Mundra port in Gujarat on September 13, last year.

"The accused persons were involved in import of narcotics through fake or shell import companies and further facilitated its transport to Delhi-based Afghan nationals involved in purification and distribution of heroin in many states, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh," the spokesperson said.

Raids were conducted simultaneous at 20 locations, including 14 in Delhi, three in West Bengal, two in Gujarat and one in Punjab.
