Mumbai: Holi Ends In Tragedy After 19-Year-Old Drowns In Sea, Friend Missing. 3 Rescued

A 19-year-old boy drowned at the sea near Mumbai's Mahim after Holi celebration. Three of his friends were rescued while one of them is still missing.

The Holi celebrations for a group of five teenage boys ended in a tragedy after one of them drowned and another went missing in the sea at Mumbai's Mahim on Monday afternoon. The group had gone for a swim in the sea between Mahim and Shivaji Park coast after playing Holi when the incident occurred, news agency PTI reported citing an official.

However, the rescuers managed to save three of the boys, an official stated.

The incident occurred after some of the boys entered into the deep water while swimming but started drowning. Seeing this, their friends rushed to help but struggled to stay afloat themselves, the official stated.

The lifeguards deployed at the Chowpatty near Mahim's Hinduja hospital pulled four youths out of the sea with the help of the fire brigade personnel. They reported that a youth was missing, the official added.

Following their rescue, the boys were then rushed to Hinduja Hospital where one of the boys was declared dead during the treatment. The deceased has been identified as Harsh Kinjale (19). 

Out of the three boys rescued, two of them were unharmed while their 17 -year-old friend's condition is now stable, the official stated.

"The search and rescue operation was stopped in the late evening due to dark," PTI quoted the official saying.

9 Hospitalised In Mumbai For Sustaining Injuries During Holi Celebrations

Around 70 people were rushed to various civic hospitals in Mumbai on Monday after they sustained injuries during Holi celebrations, out of which at least nine of them required hospitalised, TOI reported.

19 patients visited KEM Hospital in Parel out of which three of them were admitted. Two of them had suffered serious head injuries while one of them was admitted to the orthopedic department.

Three people were admitted to the BYL Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central after they were injured due to falls and assaults. One of them suffered an eye injury caused by a water balloon.

As per the report, there were three burn-related cases, including one involving chemical burns.
