Motilal Vora Death: Journey From A Member Of Municipal Corporation To CM Of Madhya Pradesh

Just a day after celebrating his birthday, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Motilal Vora passed away on Monday, December 21. Vora for a very long time served as the treasurer of the Congress party. The senior leader in April earlier this year, retired from Rajya Sabha after his term ended. Early Life Of Motilal Vora Motilal Vora was born on 20 December 1927 at Nimbi Jodha in Jodhpur State of British India's Rajputana presidency (present-day Nagaur district, Rajasthan) to a Pushkarna Brahmin family. The veteran Congress leader who also served as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh received his education from Raipur and Kolkata. Before coming into politics, the former CM worked as a journalist for different newspapers. Entry into Congress In 1968, Vora became a member of the Municipal Committee from Durg (part of Madhya Pradesh), on a Samajwadi Party ticket. In 1970, after he was introduced to Congress heavyweight Pt. Kishorilal Shukla, Vora gained entry to the grand old party and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Madhya Pradesh in 1972 on an INC ticket. He was re-elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1977 and 1980 and held the Higher Education Department in the Arjun Singh cabinet in 1980. Motilal Vora became a Cabinet Minister in 1983 and was also appointed as the Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee. On 13 February 1985, Vora was made the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. On 13 February 1988, Motilal Vora resigned as the Chief Minister and on 14 February 1988 took charge of the Ministry of Health, Family Welfare and Civil Aviation. Motilal Vora was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 1988. Held the post of Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 26 May 1993 to 3 May 1996. It was Vora who supported the nomination of Rahul Gandhi as the party's Prime Ministerial candidate. In the 1980s, the leader also served as the state chief of Madhya Pradesh. The former CM was tested positive for the Covid-19 in October this year.
