The fire was then doused by the cabin crew members on board flight 6E 2037 of Indigo airlines.

A fire accident was avoided on an Indigo passenger flight due to the awareness shown by the crew members on Thursday. A passenger's cell phone caught fire mid-air on a Dibrugarh-Delhi flight but the cabin crew was able to extinguish it with the help of a fire extinguisher, PTI reported.

No passengers or cabin crew were injured in the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials said.

Indigo A320 Neo aircraft VT-IJV operating flight 6E 2037 was flying to Delhi from Dibrugarh. It was then that a cabin crew member saw sparks and smoke emitting from a passenger's phone and then rushed to extinguish it, officials of aviation regulator DGCA told PTI.

The fire was then doused by the cabin crew members on board flight 6E 2037 of Indigo airlines.

"There was an incident of a smoke from a mobile device on flight 6E 2037 from Dibrugarh to Delhi. The crew is trained to manage hazardous incidences and they quickly managed the situation. There was no harm caused to any passenger or property onboard," read a statement by Indigo.
