Mizoram Govt Announces 2-Week Total Lockdown From June 9 As Covid-19 Tally Climbs To 42
As per reports, the decision to impose a total lockdown in Mizoram was taken after a consultative meeting chaired by Chief Minister Zoramthanga earlier in the day.
Aizawl: In a bid to control the rising number of Coronavirus cases in the state, Mizoram government on Monday decided to extend the imposed lockdown for 2 more weeks, announcing a complete lockdown in the state starting from June 9, 2020. The detailed guidelines in this regard will be notified later in the day.

As per reports, the decision to impose a total lockdown in Mizoram was taken after a consultative meeting chaired by Chief Minister Zoramthanga earlier in the day.
"Consultative meeting chaired by CM decides to impose 2 weeks total lockdown of the state w.e.f 00:00 hours of 9th June 2020 in view of the prevailing situation. Lockdown Guidelines will be notified shortly," Department of Information and Public Relations, Mizoram tweeted.
In the meeting, the state government also decided to extend the period of quarantine which currently is 14 days to 21 days with immediate effect. Earlier in the day, eight more people tested positive for Covid-19 , in Mizoram, taking the total number of cases in the state to 42, an official of the Health department said on Monday. Of the 244 samples tested on Sunday, 8 have come out as positive. The department said that the new 8 patients - 5 females and 3 males were diagnosed with Covid-19 at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) on Sunday night. Of the 8 patients, 5 are from Champhai district near Myanmar border, 2 from Khawzawl district and 1 from south Mizorams Siaha district, a government official told news agency PTI. All the patients aged between 21-30 are Delhi returnees and have been placed under quarantine since their arrival to the state. In a meeting of three doctor's association on Sunday, it was suggested that a total lockdown be imposed in the state capital Aizawl and in all 10 others district headquarters. The meeting also suggested banning home quarantine for returnees except for patients with serious illness.
