'No Compromise On South Mumbai Seat': Shiv Sena UBT's Sanjay Raut After Milind Quits Congress

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said there will be no compromise on the South Mumbai Lok Sabha seat, after Milind Deora quit Congress on Sunday.

After former Union Minister Milind Deora quit Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said that there would be no compromise when it comes to the South Mumbai Lok Sabha seat. Recently, Milind Deora, expressed his disapproval when the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) laid claim to the South Mumbai Lok Sabha seat. He said that if Shiv Sena UBT does not stop staking claim to the seat, Congress will announce its candidates for the seats too, as reported by news agency PTI.

Arvind Sawant of the undivided Shiv Sena, now with the Thackeray faction, had crushed Milind Deora to claim the South Mumbai seat in the 2014 and 2019 general elections.

Referring to this win, Sanjay Raut told PTI, "Sawant is a two-time MP. What is wrong with him contesting again? There will be no compromise on this."

When asked about Milind Deora's exit from the old party, Sanjay Raut said, "We knew Murli Deora well and what it is to work for the party and sacrifice for it. If people change localities to contest elections, it shows a new trend has started in the state."

Milind Deora, who was once the head of the Mumbai Congress, is the son of late Murli Deora, a stalwart of the grand old party. Milind had also issued a video statement earlier in which he spoke of his family's 50-year association with the South Mumbai Constituency, as MPs or otherwise.

He also commented on MP Arvind Sawant's 2014 and 2019 win in the video and stated, "We were not elected in any wave."

According to PTI's report, former Chief Minister and member of the Congress Working Committee Ashok Chavan said that Milind Deora wanted to contest in the elections from the South Mumbai seat. However, the internal understanding in the MVA alliance was to not change the sitting MP.
