Election For Municipal Corporations In Delhi To Be Held In April, Polling Station List Comes Out Today

The MCD is divided into three municipal corporations- North, South, and East. It has 272 constituencies with more than 1,400 polling booths.

New Delhi: The Delhi municipal elections will be held in April, announced the State Election Commission (SEC) on Tuesday. It added that the publication of the list of polling stations will begin from today, February 23.

The public notice issued by the SEC on Tuesday said that “it is notified for the information of general public, political parties and all concerned that General Elections to 272 wards of three Municipal Corporation of Delhi are scheduled to be held in April-2022.”

The notice added that any general public, intending candidates, and political parties can inspect the list of polling stations and file suggestions and objections, if any, with the returning officer till February 28.

Due to the covid-19 situation, the number of voters at one polling station has been fixed at 1250. 

The MCD is divided into three municipal corporations- North, South, and East. It has 272 constituencies with more than 1,400 polling booths. The last civic body election in Delhi took place in April 2017 and the five year term of the civic body is ending in April 2022.

In January 2022, the SEC had issued an order in which it stated the number of wards to be reserved in the three municipal corporations for SC category candidates. It stated 20 wards in NDMC, 15 in SDMC, and 11 in EDMC have to be reserved for SC candidates. 

Meanwhile, 50 percent of the wards are reserved for women candidates among the 272 wards.

The three municipal corporations of Delhi are currently ruled by the BJP which had been in control of MCD since its trifurcation in 2012.
