Several Opposition parties including Congress have been cornering the Modi government over the issue of violence-hit Manipur. Countrywide outrage erupted after a video went viral on social media where a bunch of men could be seen parading two tribal women naked in Manipur’s Kangpokpi on May 4. The incident came just a day after the violence broke out in the northeastern state between Meiteis and Kukis over Meiteis demand for a reservation in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) list.
The Congress has been demanding a discussion in both the Houses of the Parliament in the ongoing monsoon session. Opposition parties have been stalling the proceedings of the House since the monsoon session started on July 20 demanding answers from PM Modi.
On Thursday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the Prime Minister is not speaking a word on Manipur because he knows that it’s his ideology which has burned Manipur. In a video message Gandhi said that PM Modi is the prime minister of the selected few people. The former MP called PM Modi "Prime Minister of the RSS”.
Gandhi said that people must be surprised as to why the Prime Minister is not going to Manipur. "All of you have seen what has happened in Manipur. All of you must be wondering why PM Modi has not said even a single word on the issue. All of you must have expected that in a situation where a state in the country is burning, the prime minister will definitely say something about it, Gandhi said in the video.
