Maharashtra: Massive Fire Erupts At Mumbai's Iconic Crawford Market; No Casualties Reported

As of now, no major property loss or loss of life has been reported. Meanwhile, Police and ambulance have also been mobilised to help in the ongoing rescue operations.

A massive fire broke out at the famous Crawford Market in South Mumbai on Thursday evening. According to the initial reports, the fire erupted at the ground floor of the market, triggering huge panic among the local residents. A Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said that they received the information about the fire at 6:15 PM. Upon acknowledging the incident, soon eight fire engines were rushed to the spot to douse the blaze. A PTI report quoted the official saying that it is a level two fire and around eight fire engines have been rushed to the spot. The official further informed that personnel of the BMC ward office, police and ambulances have also reached the site. "Firefighting is on and nobody was reported injured in the blaze," the fire brigade official said, adding that the cause of the fire is being ascertained. Meanwhile, the fire that started on Tuesday due to the leakage of oil in the oil well of Oil India Ltd, located in Tinsukia district of Assam, is getting worse. Flames of fierce fire are spreading in the surrounding villages. According to the reports, the inferno was so intense that it could be seen from as far as 10 km away, and had completely and partially burnt more than 35 houses. On Wednesday, at least two firefighters died while four other people suffered burnt injuries. In a preventive measure, as many as 7,000 people have been evacuated.
