Will waive-off all farmers' loan within 10 days of coming to power in MP, says Rahul Gandhi
Ahead of the much crucial Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls, Congress President Rahul Gandhi a lucrative message for the farmers of the state.
Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election 2018: Ahead of the much crucial Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls, Congress President Rahul Gandhi a lucrative message for the farmers of the state. If Congress wins in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled state, the new government will waive off loans of each and every farmer within 10-days of forming the government. The Congress Chief made this unprecedented promise while addressing a rally Vidhisha on Friday. Gandhi has made a similar promise in Chhattisgarh earlier this month where Assembly elections took place in two phases and results are awaited. Here in Vidisha, the Congress President launched a stern attack on Narendra Modi and said that the Prime Minister waived off farmers’ loan of Rs 3.5 lakh but has done nothing for them. He also allegedly accused PM Modi of helping his rich friends and letting the poor people suffer.
Rahul further said that Central government let Vijay Mallya flee and even Nirval Modi and Mehul Choksi took away with thousands of crores of money. “You can waive their loans but can’t do the same for the poor farmers of the country? You promised to provide the best cost for their produce... you promised to change their lives. When I asked him why you haven’t done anything, his (PM Modi) response was silence. Not one word, no assurance, he didn't even say there was no money,” Gandhi said addressing a rally in the state.
The Congress chief then went ahead and counted 10 on his fingers and said that his party will respond on BJP’s behalf by waving loans of farmers within 10 days of forming the government in Madhya Pradesh.
Gandhi, in June this year, vowed to wave loans of up to Rs 2 lakh if Congress gets into power. However, a report by Times of India states that repayment of farm loans witnessed a dip of 10 per cent across Madhya Pradesh after Gandhi first made the announcement in Mandsaur on June 6 – the anniversary of the death of five farmers in police firing.
Elections in Madhya Pradesh are scheduled to take place on November 23 and the votes will be counted on December 11. The Congress aims to unseat the 3-term Shivraj Singh Chauhan-led BJP government in the state.
