MP: Union Minister L Murugan Among 5 Candidates Elected As Rajya Sabha MPs Unopposed

All five candidates who were running for Rajya Sabha elections from Madhya Pradesh were declared elected unopposed.

All five contenders in the running for Rajya Sabha elections from Madhya Pradesh, comprising Union Minister L Murugan and three others from the BJP, were declared elected unopposed on Tuesday, as confirmed by an official, PTI reported.

They secured their unopposed victory as only five nominations were submitted for the vacant seats by the deadline for withdrawal of nominations (February 20). "All five candidates, including four from the BJP and one from the Congress, were declared elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha by the Returning Officer," the official stated.

According to the PTI, The BJP's four candidates include Union Minister L Murugan, Umesh Nath Maharaj, the head of Valmiki Dham Ashram, Banshilal Gurjar, the national vice president of Kisan Morcha, and Maya Naroliya, the president of the Madhya Pradesh BJP women's wing.

According to the official, except Umesh Nath Maharaj, the four candidates have already received their certificates of victory from the returning officer.

Rajya Sabha: Sole MP Congress Nominee Ashok Singh Wins Unopposed

The sole nominee from the Congress who was declared elected unopposed is Ashok Singh. He won the Rajya Sabha elections from Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. Following his victory, former CM Kamal Nath congratulated him in a post on his social media account. He wrote, "Hearty congratulations to Mr. Ashok Singh, a loyal and struggling Congress member, on being elected as Rajya Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh."

Congress had nominated Singh who hails from the OBC community, won the Mandsaur LS seat, and was a joint candidate of Kamal Nath, Digvijaya Singh, Jitu Patwari, and Umar Singhar.

According to sources, Kamal Nath claimed to have the support of one-third of the state's MLAs, on which he was contesting for the one Rajya Sabha seat that was open to the Congress party. The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister in Delhi also discussed the topic with Sonia Gandhi.
