It further directed them to appear before the investigation officer at 11:00 am at High Grounds Police Station within 7 days.
The statement comes a day after Election Commission directed social media platform 'X' to immediately take down a post shared by the Karnataka unit of the BJP.
The EC said the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka registered an FIR in this connection and wrote to 'X' on May 5 to take down the objectionable post as per the provisions of the Information Technology Act and the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021. The FIR was registered against Nadda, Malviya and BJP's Karnataka unit chief BY Vijayendra in connection with a social media following a complaint filed by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) alleging violation of model code of conduct.
However, the post has not been taken down yet. Therefore, 'X' is directed to take down the post immediately, the EC said.
The said video posted on social media allegedly features animated characters of (Congress leader) Rahul Gandhi and (Chief Minister) Siddaramaiah. In the clip, the SC, ST and OBC communities are portrayed as eggs in a nest and it also suggested Rahul Gandhi planting a big egg labelled as Muslim community, according to PTI.
It projected as though funds are being fed to the chick depicting the Muslim community, which then kicks out SC, ST and OBC community, it alleged.
