No Relief For Youth Congress Chief Srinivas As Karnataka Court Dismisses Bail Plea In ‘Harassment’ Case

Indian Youth Congress President Srinivas BV moved the Karnataka court after the Gauhati High Court refused to grant any interim relief to him in his plea seeking to quash an FIR filed against him by Angkita Dutta.

A bail petition filed by National Indian Youth Congress (IYC) President Srinivas BV in the additional city civil and sessions judge court in Bengaluru was dismissed on Friday. The bail plea was in the case filed by expelled Assam Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) President Angkita Dutta under section 438 of CrPC. Srinivas BV moved the Karnataka court after the Gauhati High Court refused to grant any interim relief to him in his plea moved before it seeking to quash an FIR filed against him by Angkita Dutta, accusing him of outraging her modesty and heckling her.

The former APYC president accused Srinivas BV of harassment. On Thursday, Dutta had filed a police complaint against Srinivas BV at the Dispur Police Station in Assam’s Guwahati, for allegedly harassing her over her gender for almost six months.

Angkita Dutta's Allegations Against IYC National President Srinivas BV

In her complaint, Dutta accused IYC National President Srinivas BV of persistently harassing her for the past six months. She said Srinivas made sexist comments and threatened of dire consequences if she complained against him.

On Thursday,  she said Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Kumar Borah had asked her to remain silent for at least 48 hours. Dutta said, “I went to Bhupen Borah’s house and met him. He spoke to Srinivas and told me that the latter will not file a defamation case against me and asked me to remain silent for at least 48 hours. I then left his place for my home."

"However, I couldn't even reach my house when I read the tweet that they served a defamation notice on me. I consider Bhupen Borah my mentor and have a lot of respect for him. But what was the value of the APCC president’s commitment,” she wondered.

When asked if she planned on joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Angkita was quick to reply that she would never join the saffron party. Dutta said that she was sure that the truth would come to light once the inquiry is completed and the Congress would remove her expulsion soon. "Srinivas cannot get away with harassment so easily," she said.

Dutta further dismissed rumours of contesting the Nazira assembly seat in the next elections. She said her biggest concern is that she gets justice.

Meanwhile, the Assam Police on Sunday served a notice on Srinivas BV to appear before it over the harassment complaint filed by Angkita Dutta. The youth Congress leader has been asked to appear before the additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), (East Guwahati), Moitrayee Deka, at the Dispur police station in Guwahati on May 2. If he fails to appear, an arrest warrant may be issued against him.
