Karnataka: Congress legislator in hospital after alleged fight at resort; party denies claims

"Anand Singh is admitted in hospital due to chest pain. There are no injuries or anything", said Party’s senior leader D K Shivakumar.

New Delhi: Amid troubles looming over the JDS-Congress coalition in Karnataka, Congress legislators reportedly got into a fight among themselves during their stay in a resort, where they are lodged to keep away feared incursion by BJP. The alleged physical altercation between the MLAs resulted in legislator Anand Singh getting hospitalised. It is being claimed that Congress MLAs Anand Singh and J N Ganesh got into a squabble late night on Saturday, which gradually took an aggressive form and Singh was hit on his head with a bottle. Congress has refuted all such claims. Senior Congress leader and current Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka in the coalition government, G Parameshwara, while reacting to a question about the alleged fight between the two leaders in the hotel, said  “I've seen that only through media. I was there till 8 o'clock yesterday. I don't know what has happened but I will let you know. Once I come out, I'll definitely let you know.” Party’s senior leader D K Shivakumar, who visited Singh in the hospital also rejected reports of any fight between the two leaders and said that the entire party is strongly united.  He said: “I don't know about the fight Anand Singh is admitted in hospital due to chest pain. There are no injuries or anything. His parents are here at the hospital. Other issues are just speculations.” BJP MLA R Ashok alleged that Congress is lying about the fight. He said: “DK Shivakumar and DK Suresh are confusing people by telling lies. Doctors of Apollo Hospital should come out and give clarification about whether Anand Singh is admitted for chest pain treatment or for something else. Police should file a suo-motu case and investigate the matter.” Congress has lodged its MLAs in Eagleton Resort after a troubled political scenario has emerged in Karnataka ahead of Lok Sabha elections, where on one hand Congress and JDS are accusing BJP of buying out their MLAs, on the other hand, BJP is also accusing Congress-JDS of the same. Amid this tussle, on Friday Congress had moved all of its MLAs to a resort to reportedly escape from BJP’s attempt of breaking the party. Watch report:
