J&K: Anti-militant exercises to resume as suspension of operations discontinued

The Centre had suspended anti-militancy operations unilaterally in Jammu and Kashmir till the holy month of Ramzan.

New Delhi: The Centre today decided to not extend the suspension of operations against terrorists that was brought about in the beginning of the holy month of Ramzan. With Ramzan now over, the centre has decided to resume the anti-militancy operations, a crucial step at a time when entire country is angered over the recent deaths of Indian soldiers and journalist Shujaat Bukhari. After Home Ministry tweeted about the decision from its verified account, it is now confirmed that now full-fledged operation aimed at decimating the militants can be resumed. The Home Ministry tweeted: “The Government of India decides not to extend the suspension of operations in J&K announced in the beginning of Ramzan.” It further tweeted: “The operations against the terrorists to resume”. Ministry lauded the security forces: “The Govt commends the security forces for having shown exemplary restraint during Ramzan despite grave provocations”. The Centre had suspended anti-militancy operations unilaterally in Jammu and Kashmir till the holy month of Ramzan after being pressed for it by CM Mehbooba Mufti. However, terrorist activities did not cease during the Ramzan ceasefire and several encounters had to be conducted between army and militants, though, none was initiated by army. However during the suspension of operations the security forces did reserve the right to retaliate if attacked or if essential to protect the lives of innocent people.
