Nitish Kumar's JDU Extends Support to NDA's Vice-Presidential Pick Jagdeep Dhankar

The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar as its candidate for the country's vice-president.

New Delhi: While extending his support to NDA vice-president candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday said, "the Governor of West Bengal Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji is welcome to be nominated as the Vice Presidential candidate of NDA. JDU will support Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar ji. Best wishes to him."

The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar as its candidate for the country's vice-president. Dhankhar's name was announced as the NDA's Vice Presidential candidate at the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting. BJP President JP Nadda announced his name. Dhankhar had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi this afternoon. Apart from this, he also met Home Minister Amit Shah.

The nomination of candidates for the Vice Presidential election will be held till July 19. After this, nomination papers will be scrutinized on July 20. Candidates who have enrolled till July 22 can withdraw their names. On August 6, the voting for the Vice-President's election will be held.

The decision was taken at the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting held at the party's central office on Saturday evening. The meeting was held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chaired by BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, BJP's organisation general secretary BL Santosh attended the crucial meet.

"NDA's candidate for the post of Vice President of India to be Jagdeep Dhankhar", said BJP chief JP Nadda after the meeting. "Jagdeep Dhankhar is a Kisan Putra (son of farmer) who established himself as people's governor," added Nadda.

PM Modi also said Dhankhar brings an illustrious legal, legislative and gubernatorial career and has always worked for the well-being of farmers, youth, women and the marginalised.

"Kisan Putra Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji is known for his humility. He brings with him an illustrious legal, legislative and gubernatorial career. He has always worked for the well-being of farmers, youth, women and the marginalised. Glad that he will be our VP candidate," Modi said in a tweet.

The prime minister said Dhankhar has an excellent knowledge of the Constitution.

"He is also well-versed with legislative affairs. I am sure that he will be an outstanding Chair in the Rajya Sabha & guide the proceedings of the House with the aim of furthering national progress," said PM.
