'It's Not Bydegt, But Budget': Ramdas Athawale Gives Shashi Tharoor An English Lesson

MP Shashi Tharoor made a tweet commenting about the recent budget. Union Minister Ramdas Athawale was quick to take a dig at him by correcting the spelling errors in his tweet.

New Delhi: In a rare incident, Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor was at the receiving end of an English lesson. This happened when Union Minister Ramdas Athawale didn’t let go of the chance to point out  Tharoor’s errors and said, “one is bound to make mistakes while making unnecessary claims.”

The newly launched budget, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has seen quite some resistance from the opposition. Speaking of the same, Tharoor used Twitter to share his views. He posted a visual from the Budget Debate where Mr Athawale has a stunned expression and said, “Nearly two-hour rely to the Bydget debate. The stunned & incredulous expression on Minister @RamdasAthawale’s face says it all: even the Treasury benches can’t believe FinMin @nsitharaman’s claims about the economy & her Budget!”

Athawale, who was embroiled here, was quick to notice typos in Tharoor’s tweet. He took to the micro-blogging site to reply back to his colleague. He said, “Dear Shashi Tharoor ji, they say one is bound to make mistakes while making unnecessary claims and statements. It’s not “Bydget” but BUDGET. Also, not rely but “reply”! Well, we understand!”

When his mistake was pointed out, Tharoor admitted his goof-up and replied, “Careless typing is a bigger sin than bad English!” This gave the Twiterrati a reason to have a good laugh.

The Union Budget Speech went on for a total of 91 minutes, which was Finance Minister Sitharaman’s shortest to date. The budget did not include a hike in hike income taxes, reduced tax deduction limit, hiked tax incentives for startups, delayed updated tax returns which have upset a few.
