‘Disengagement Process 'Intricate’, Requires Constant Verification: Indian Army On Indo-China Corps Commander-Level Talks

The Indian Army has said that the disengagement process at the LAC is intricate and requires constant verifications.

New Delhi: The Indian Army on Thursday stated that the disengagement process with China at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is intricate and requires constant verification. According to information by ANI, the army spokesperson has said that discussions are being done ‘through established military and diplomatic channels to address the prevailing situation’. The statement comes after both the countries engaged in a fourth round of talks regarding de-escalation. The 15 hour-long meeting began on Tuesday, July 14, and concluded on Wednesday, July 15. Commanders from PLA & Indian Army held a meeting at Chushul, on the Indian side, for the fourth round of talks, on 14 July. ‘ It also added that ‘Engagement was consistent with consensus between Special Representatives of India-China on 5 July, to discuss complete disengagement. Senior Commanders reviewed progress on implementation of the 1st phase of disengagement and discussed further steps to ensure complete disengagement.’ The statement also reiterated that both countries are committed to the de-escalation process and are taking the process forward through regular discussions. India and China remain committed to the objective of complete disengagement. This process is intricate and requires constant verification. They are taking it forward through regular meetings at the diplomatic and military level.’ After the 4th round of commander level talks, Chinese Foreign Minister spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Wednesday, "The two sides achieved progress in further disengagement between border troops and easing situation at the western sector of China-India boundary. We hope India will work with China to implement consensus with concrete actions and jointly safeguard peace and tranquillity in border areas."
