China Reacts To PM Modi's Unannounced Leh Visit; Calls For 'Lowering The Temperature'

As PM Modi takes stock of security situation along the Chinese border of India, China's Foreign Ministry has stated that no party should engage in any action that may escalate the situation at this point.

New Delhi: In what can be termed as an anticipated reaction after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sudden visit to  the forward areas in Leh, Ladakh, amid the ongoing Sino-Indian dispute, China has issued a statement reiterating that escalation of situation by any party must be avoided. He also launched and indirect attack at China in his speech in Nimmoo.  Chinese Foreign Ministry has stated that no party should engage in any action that may escalate the situation at this point. Zhao Lijian, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said ‘India and China are in communication and negotiations on lowering the temperatures through military and diplomatic channels. No party should engage in any action that may escalate the situation at this point.” Prime Minister’s Modi visit to Ladakh is being viewed by experts as a strong and clear message to China that India is not backing down. The visit comes weeks after Indian and Chinese troops got engaged in the most aggressive face-off in last five decades in Galwan Valley, which saw death of 20 Indian soldiers including a colonel rank officer. China suffered 40 casualties as per sources, however, it has chosen not reveal the damage it suffered. India has maintained that its troops never crossed the Line of Actual control in Ladakh, but it was China which disturbed the status quo along the LAC. In the high altitude terrain of Nimmoo, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the Indian soldiers along the Ladakh border to boost their morales. he launched an indirect salvo at China stating the 'era of expansionism is over' and it is evident in history that expansionist forces have always perished. Home Minister Amit Shah, NSA Ajit Doval and top officials of Army will also be present in the meeting.
