I Am Sure The Protesting Wrestlers Will Get Justice, Says BJP Leader Maneka Gandhi
Speaking at an event in Srinagar, Lok Sabha MP Maneka Gandhi said she is sure that the protesting wrestlers will get justice.
New Delhi: BJP MP Maneka Gandhi on Thursday said she is confident that the protesting wrestlers, who are seeking the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment allegations, will get justice. Speaking at an event "Let’s Co-exist", to mark the spirit of living and thriving on a shared planet, in Srinagar, Lok Sabha MP Maneka Gandhi said, “I am sure that they will get justice at the end of it.”
The wrestlers are on a protest demanding the arrest of Singh over sexual harassment charges.
Earlier on Tuesday, the protesting wrestlers accompanied by hundreds of supporters gathered on the banks of the Ganga in Haridwar, threatening to immerse their World and Olympic medals in the holy river. However, they refrained from doing so after being convinced by khap and farmer leaders, led by Naresh Tikait, who sought five days to get their grievances addressed.
Olympic medallists Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat went to Har ki Pauri to protest the inaction against the WFI chief.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has filed two FIRs against Singh. While the first FIR relates to allegations by a minor wrestler and has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the second is related to outraging modesty.
Brij Bhushan Singh, who repeatedly denied all charges against him, said that he would hang himself if a single allegation is proved against him.
Amid the ongoing protest, a 'mahapanchayat' convened by Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Naresh Tikait to discuss the future strategy of the agitation, reserved its decision and said a call will be taken at the meeting of the khap panchayat on Friday in Kurukshetra, Haryana.
Earlier in 2021, Maneka Gandhi and his son Varun Gandhi were dropped from BJP’s 80-member National Executive after Varun Gandhi went vocal about the policies of the Centre in the context of the farm laws and the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, where a Union Minister’s convoy allegedly ran over and killed four protesting farmers.
