How will India turn cashless? 90% of people in Motihari village have never seen an ATM card

New Delhi:  At the time when most of us in the metro cities are resorting to digital form of payments like Paytm, freecharge etc, in order to save the little cash we have in our wallets, a village named Balganga in Motihari, where at least 35-40 families reside, hardly anyone has ever heard of what an ATM is and how does an ATM card look like.  Almost every family in Motihari has at least one bank account, yet they are not acquainted with what an ATM is and how it looks like. ABP News correspondent went to speak to the locals of the village and on showing them an ATM card; all one could see was clueless and blank faces. While some said that they are “seeing it for the first time”, others called it a “rail ticket”. It may sound funny to us, for we are privileged and lucky (in the current scenario) enough to be staying in the metro cities which are developed, but; for a country where there are around 640,867 villages and where majority of the population is uneducated, it is no joke but bitter reality. After the government announced demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, the government has been pressing to switch to digital form of payments. PM Narendra Modi has also spoken on various platforms that he aims of a Digital India. But, as a matter of fact, a majority of this population is not educated and literate enough to understand what an ATM card does and how a Paytm wallet could possibly work. Chat Conversation End
