PoK Belongs To India, BJP Not ‘Large-Hearted’ To Give Even An Inch Away: Amit Shah In RS

During the bill's debate in the Upper House of Parliament, Shah referred to the Supreme Court's decision upholding the repeal of Article 370 as "a major defeat for the opposition parties".

Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in Rajya Sabha on Monday. While discussing the bill, Shah declared that "Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) belongs to India, nobody can snatch it".

Commenting further on the PoK matter, the Union Home Minister said that the BJP does not have large-hearted approach  when it comes to giving away even an inch of the country's land. "No one has the right to give away a section of our land to show off their big heart," he remarked criticising the country's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru

'PoK Wouldn't Have Existed If...': HM Amit Shah Cites Nehru's Quote On 'Mistakes' In J-K

Citing a quote highlighting "mistakes" by former PM Jawaharlal Nehru, Shah said: "One thing is known by everyone, had there not been an untimely ceasefire, there wouldn't have been Pak-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) today...I would like to read out a statement...This is the quote by Jawaharlal Nehru. Unko toh manoge ya nahi manoge ki unhone galti ki. Accept this..."

In addition, citing the source of the quote, Shah stated, "Swayam Nehru keh rahein hain ki meri galati hain."

During the bill's debate in the Upper House of Parliament, Shah referred to the Supreme Court's decision upholding the repeal of Article 370 as "a major defeat for the opposition parties".

"...The Supreme Court also agreed that it is not proper to challenge Governor's Rule and President's Rule announcements...When the temporary provision was made, the question arose as to how it would be removed if it was only temporary. So a provision was inserted within Article 373 stating that the President has the authority to amend Section 370, ban it, or remove it entirely from the Constitution..." Union Amit Shah said while discussions in Rajya Sabha.

He asserted that PM Modi and the Union cabinet will not run away from owning responsibility for abrogating Article 370 in J-K, remarking "if anybody in the future asks who is responsible for this decision, I would like to say yes, me and my Narendra Modi government ar responsible for the decision".

In a series of statements emphasising the Modi government's commitment to ensuring justice for the displaced Kashmiri people, Shah emphasised the negative consequences of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, attributing its existence to the rise of separatism and, as a result, the promotion of terrorism.

Amit Shah stated during his speech on the two bills related to Jammu and Kashmir that the Union Government has reserved 24 seats in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir because the region is ours. "...Previously, there were 37 seats in Jammu; now, there are 43 seats following the new delimitation commission. There were 46 seats in Kashmir before, now there are 47, and 24 seats have been reserved in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir since we PoK is ours..." said the Union Home Minister.

The Parliament on Monday passed the J&K Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and J&K Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
