'History Stands Witness': Rahul Gandhi Takes Dig At RSS Over 'Har Ghar Tiranga' Campaign

"They could not stop the Congress at the time of the freedom struggle. They won't be able to party now," Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

Rahul Gandhi, who was in Karnataka on Wednesday, took a fresh shot at the BJP's Har Ghar Tiranga campaign by posting images of his visit to Karnataka Khadi Village Industries.

As Gandhi is shown posing with and ironing the National Flag, he writes that history shows that people organizing the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign are from an anti-national organization that did not raise the Tricolour for 52 years.

"They could not stop the Congress at the time of the freedom struggle. They won't be able to party now," Rahul Gandhi tweeted attacking RSS-BJP, soon after the Enforcement Directorate closed the party headquarters and the Gandhis' houses on Wednesday and shut the Young Indian office inside the National Herald building.

In his most recent Mann ki Baat, Prime Minister Modi urged everyone to switch their social media profile pictures to the National Flag.

On Wednesday, the Congress responded by changing the image of Jawaharlal Nehru clutching the tricolor flag on their social media profiles, as well as the party's official Twitter account.

"Our tricolour represents our national pride. Every Indian's heart beats for our tricolour " Rahul Gandhi tweeted as he updated his profile picture to show Nehru clutching the National Flag.

"In the Lahore session of 1929, while hoisting the flag on the banks of river Ravi, Pandit Nehru said, 'Once again you have to remember that this flag has now been hoisted. As long as there is a single Indian man, woman, child alive, the prestige of this tricolour should not be lowered," Congress leader Ramesh tweeted.

'Such Things Should Not Be Politicised': RSS

The RSS has been questioned for failing to change its social media profile picture to the National Flag.

"Such things should not be politicised. The RSS has already extended its support to 'Har Ghar Tiranga' and 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' programmes. The Sangh had in July appealed for full support and participation of the people and swayamsevaks in the programmes to be organised by the government, private bodies and the Sangh-related organisations," RSS Akhil Bhartiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar informed news agency PTI.

On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also urged the Congress, the Samajwadi Party (SP), and other opposition parties to refrain from politicising the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign and instead unite to honour the National Flag.

"There are no hard feelings for anyone, no accusations and no fight. I would like to keep this topic with love because everyone has equal rights on the national flag, we are now close to celebrating August 15 and there is a festive atmosphere in the country. 15 August comes every year but this time it is coming with double enthusiasm because the country is completing 75 years of its independence," BJP's national spokesperson Sambit Patra was quoted by PTI in its report.
