Himachal: Avalanche In Kinnaur Blocks Hindustan-Tibet Highway, Several Roads Closed Due To Snow

Officials said that efforts are underway to reopen the road (National Highway 5) since the avalanche occurred near Tinku nullah in Pooh.

New Delhi: The Hindustan-Tibet road was blocked on Thursday when an avalanche struck the Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh, said officials, reported news agency PTI. They stated that efforts are underway to reopen the road (National Highway 5) since the avalanche occurred near Tinku nullah in Pooh.

The officials claim that snowfall in other parts of the state resulted in the closure of 256 additional roads, including four national highways.

According to the authorities, the snowfall necessitated the closure of National Highway (NH) 3 near Rohtang Pass, NH 305 near Jalori Pass, NH 505 from Gramphu to Lossar, and NH 5 in Pooh.

In Lahaul and Spiti, most roads were blocked at 137. According to their claims, 53 roads were blocked in Chamba, 33 in Kullu, 13 in Shimla, six in Sirmaur, and five each in Kinnaur and Mandi.

They added that 1,024 transformers were disrupted.

According to the meteorological department, Gondla received 20 cm of snow, Kothi 12 cm, Khadrala 10 cm, Keylong 9 cm, Keylong 8 cm, Kalpa 7 cm, Sangla 7 cm, Shillaroo and Tissa 5 cm each.

According to the weather department, intermittent rains also fell on several parts of Himachal Pradesh.

With 88 millimeters of precipitation, Kheri was the state's wettest location. Saloni received 43 millimeters of rainfall, followed by Dharmshala with 29 millimeters, Sangrah with 26 millimeters, Jogindernagar with 24 millimeters, Nadaun with 22 millimeters, Mehre with 20 millimeters, Jatton Barrage with 14 millimeters, Mandi with 14 millimeters, Gaggal with 13 millimeters, Ghamroor with 12 millimeters,

On January 29 and 30, the weather office has issued a "yellow" warning for thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms in the plains, low, and mid-hills, as well as for isolated areas of heavy rain and snow over mid and high hills.

It has predicted that the region will experience a wet spell from January 28 to January 30, when a new western disturbance will likely approach the state.

Farmers have been advised by authorities to avoid waterlogging, which can result in plant rot or poor germination in wheat and vegetables.
