Heavy Rain Waterlogs Delhi, Schools Shut In Uttarakhand Amid Showers. Check IMD Alert for These States

The IMD has issued rain alerts in Delhi and Uttarakhand, predicting more showers in the regions.

Weather Update: Several parts of North India have been reeling under heavy rainfall for a few weeks, which has severely impacted normal life and caused trouble to residents in the region. Two of the states that have been bearing the brunt of incessant rainfall are Delhi and Uttarakhand.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain alerts in both the states, signalling more showers in the regions.

The commuters in Delhi continued to face trouble due to waterlogging and traffic jams as rainfall continued to lash the city on Friday morning. The national capital has been witnessing heavy downpours for over two weeks, which has thrown normal life out of gear. On Friday, the city faced traffic jams and waterlogging in various areas following heavy downpours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in Delhi and has predicted that city is set to witness a partly cloudy sky accompanied by light to moderate showers in the next seven days. According to the weather office, the temperature will hover around 27 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

The IMD also stated that the University area received 89.5 mm and the IGNOU area received 34.5 mm of rain from July 25 from 8.30 am to 6.30 am on July 26.

Orange Alert Schools Shut In Uttarakhand 

The IMD has predicted that Uttarakhand, which has been reeling under heavy rains, is likely to witness more showers in the next seven days. Following the weather department forecast, there will be a holiday on Friday, July 26 in schools from classes 1 to 12 in Dehradun district.

The Dehradun District Magistrate Office has issued an order in this regard after the weather department's warning of heavy rain and lightning along with thunder.

In the latest bulletin, the weather office has issued an orange alert in Uttarakhand and predicted isolated very heavy rainfall in the state on July 26 and 27.

Rain Alerts Across India

As rainfall lashes several states across India, the IMD has issued an orange alert in Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, and parts of Karnataka for the next two to three days up to July 29.

The orange alert signifies a preparedness advisory for authorities due to the potential for heavy rainfall exceeding 115.6 mm and up to 204.4 mm within 24 hours, while the red alert is the most urgent form of alert, signaling rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm within 24 hours.
