Hathras Stampede: Rahul Gandhi Writes To UP CM Adityanath, Seeks Increase In Compensation To Victims

Rahul Gandhi has urged Yogi Adityanath to increase the amount of compensation granted to Hathras stampede victims.

Hathras Stampede: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and urged him to increase the compensation granted to all the victims of the stampede incident that occurred in Hathras, claiming the lives of 123 people.

The Judicial Inquiry Commission arrived in Hathras to record the statements of all the eyewitnesses. At least 123 people lost their lives and several others were injured in a stampede that occurred during a Satsang conducted by 'Bhole Baba', on July 2.

This comes a day after the key accused in the July 2 Hathras stampede, Devprakash Madhukar, was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a magistrate court, news agency PTI reported, citing officials. Besides, Sanju Yadav, another suspect who was arrested in connection with the case, was also sent to jail for the same duration, they said.

Earlier in the day, speaking to reporters, Hathras Superintendent of Police Nipun Agarwal said that the police would apply in the court to get the remand of Madhukar and other suspects.

"Devprakash Madhukar and Sanju Yadav were produced before the judicial magistrate's court today and both were sent in judicial remand for 14 days," Assistant Prosecution Officer Uma Shankar Yadav told reporters, as quoted by PTI.

The APO said Ramprakash Shakya, who too has been arrested in the stampede case, would be produced in the court on Sunday since he was arrested after Madhukar and Yadav and has some police formalities pending.

Madhukar was arrested from Delhi's Najafgarh area late on Friday night by a Special Operations Group of the Hathras police. Shakya and Yadav were arrested on Saturday from Hathras, according to police. Madhukar is the only named accused in the FIR, which also mentions as accused "several other unidentified organisers" of the satsang.
