Haryana Elections 2019: Cong’s Randeep Surjewala Loses To BJP's Leela Ram Gujjar From Kaithal Seat

Failing to translate his initial lead into a win, Randeep Surjewala lost by a slender margin of 567 votes.

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala lost from Kaithal Assembly constituency to ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s candidate Leela Ram Gujjar in the 2019 Haryana state elections.  Failing to translate his initial lead into a win, Surjewala lost by a slender margin of 567 votes. Surjewala was seeking re-election from Kaithal. The Congress leader had lost the Jind bypoll earlier this year. Speaking to the media after the result in Kaithal, Randeep Singh Surjewala said he accepts the decision of the people of Kaithal "with humility". A close confidant of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Surjewala was seeking a fifth term as a lawmaker. Asked about the party's performance in Haryana, Surjewala said the party will soon introspect its performance. As per the latest trends coming out of the assembly election results in Haryana, the state is heading for towards a hung assembly. Neither the BJP nor the Congress appears to be in a position of government formation on its own. Menawhile Dushyant Chautala's JJP has emerged as a strong player,  leading in 9 seats and has already won one seat.
