New Delhi: Inderjeet Singh, the grandson of former President Giani Zail Singh, joined BJP today. He was inducted into BJP in presence of Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri at the party headquarters in Delhi.

After joining BJP, Inderjeet Singh said that after a long time, his grandfather Giani Jail Singh's wishes have been fulfilled today. "The way the Congress treated him... He was hurt... What's the result for loyalty... You all know". He said he would do his best to fulfil the responsibility the party gives him.

Puri hit out at the Congress on the occasion, referring to the ongoing tussle between Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and State Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu. He claimed that the Punjab government is not implementing several important schemes of the Central Government.

"Whether it is awas yojana or ayushman yojana, I don't understand why the state government is not implementing them," he said. Welcoming Inderjeet Singh to the BJP, Puri said he was very happy when he came to know that Inderjeet was joining the BJP.

Born in the Faridkot district of Punjab, Giani Zail Singh was the seventh President of the country. He had also served as MLA, minister, MP, chief minister and union minister before reaching the country's top post.

Punjab is scheduled to go to assembly election next year. After the Shiromani Akali Dal's alliance with the BJP collapsed, the saffron party will contest alone this time, while SADhas tied up with BSP to challenge the ruling Congress. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also firmly rooted in the state.
