Bengaluru Police Lodge FIR Against K'taka Deputy CM Shivakumar Over Modified Images Targeting BJP

The Bengaluru police have lodged an FIR against Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and B R Naidu from the Congress social media cell for their allegedly provocative and fake posts on social media.

The Bengaluru police have initiated legal action by filing a First Information Report (FIR) against Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and B R Naidu from the Congress social media cell for their allegedly provocative and fake posts on social media concerning BJP leaders, as per officials' statements on Monday.

The FIR has been lodged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 153(A) (promoting enmity between different groups), 504 (intentional insult, giving provocation), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 464 (making of false document), at the High Grounds police station in Bengaluru, police said, PTI reported.

Bengaluru Court Ordered Investigation

This legal action comes after the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court in Bengaluru directed the Bengaluru police to register an FIR in February. On the basis of a complaint filed by Yogendra Hodaghatta, the former secretary of the BJP Legal Cell, the court ordered the police to conduct an investigation.

The BJP leaders had taken part in a protest against the detention of kar sevak Srikanth Pujari, who had been involved in the 1992 movement to demolish the Babri mosque.

The BJP protesters carried signs that said, "I'm also a Kar Sevak, arrest me too." The Congress IT Cell is accused of altering the text on the placards to appear as if they were admitting to involvement in scams and other misconducts. These modified images were then circulated on social media platforms, including the social media account of Karnataka Congress president Shivakumar, PTI reported.
