EXCLUSIVE | Political Rallies Have No Impact On Covid Cases Rise In West Bengal, Says BJP State Chief Dilip Ghosh

ABP News spoke to West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh regarding the rising covid cases in India and political rallies being held. Dilip Ghosh while arguing that political rallies have no impact on coronavirus cases rise in West Bengal, welcomed EC's decision to stop rallies.

While the entire country is reeling under the fury of coronavirus and is on top of the priority concern list of each state, West Bengal has divided attention with much hyped state assembly polling taking place in the state.

Election Comission of India banned vehicle rallies and roadshows in West Bengal on Thursday, citing failure by political parties to maintain covid norms and safety preacutions. So far, polling in six phases has taken place and only two phases remain in West Bengal.

ABP News spoke to West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh regarding the rising covid cases in India and political rallies being held. Dilip Ghosh while arguing that political rallies have no impact on coronavirus cases rise in West Bengal, welcomed ECE's decision to stop rallies.

"The reality is that Bengal is 8th out of 10 states where corona cases are highest. So if it was spreading due do election (raliies) then numbers would have been different," Dilip Ghosh told ABP News.

He further said: "Top three states like Delhi, Maharashtra and Chattishgarh are not holding any rallies or elections but have highest (coronavirus) patients. It is a matter of investigation but I think the Election Commission has taken right step at right time."

"We have cancelled list of events now but those who are losing elections are taking corona as an excuse to call of rallies and hide their loss. They are targeting central forces or EC and now covid...but people are ready to vote," Dilip Ghosh added.

On oxygen shortage, West Bengal BJP Chief said the centre has already streamlined the process for supplying oxygen to states.

"We are running oxygen express trains and supply is being streamlined. There has been a sudden rise in covid cases so there are such hiccups. But people (political parties) who could not give any PPE kit to doctors or provide ration to their people now have no right to raise their voice on this," he said.

"Modi ji has ensured best of facilities are provided for all. The reality is that people in rural Bengal die because they do not get proper food or rice," Dilip Ghosh took a dig at the ruling TMC government.

Further extending his scale of the attack on Mamata Banerjee-led government, Dilip Ghosh blamed the state was in shambles as TMC mismanaged during cyclone Amphan.
