EAM Jaishankar Meets Bangladesh Counterpart For 7th India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission

This is the first time that the JCC meeting took place in-person with S Jaishankar co-chairing the meeting held in New Delhi along with his Bangladeshi counterpart, AK Abdul Momen. 

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen met on Sunday for the 7th India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission meeting. "A warm welcome to FM Dr. AK Abdul Momen for the 7th India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission meeting. Our regular meetings reflect our unique friendship,” Jaishankar tweeted. This is the first time that the JCC meeting took place in-person with Jaishankar co-chairing the meeting held in New Delhi along with his Bangladeshi counterpart. 

The Ministry of External Affairs in a statement issued said that the JCC is to review the bilateral ties including cooperation in the wake of COVID-19, border management and security, trade and investment, connectivity, energy, water resources, development partnership and regional and multilateral issues. 

This is the first in-person meeting of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar with Bangladesh foreign minister AK Abdul Momen since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. The previous meeting which was held in the year 2020 took place virtually.

As part of the ongoing Indo-Bangladesh defence cooperation, the armies of India and Bangladesh recently conducted the 10th edition of the joint military exercise — SAMPRITI X — from June 5 to June 16 in Bangladesh.
