Did A Maharashtra Minister Attend Karan Johar's Dinner Party? BJP Leader Raises Doubts

On Monday, actors Kareena Kapoor Khan, Amrita Arora and Maheep Kapoor, wife of actor Sanjay Kapoor, tested positive for Covid-19.

New Delhi: After some actors tested positive for Covid-19 following a dinner party at director-producer Karan Johar's house, BJP leader Ashish Shelar hinted that a Maharashtra minister was also present at the gathering. Shelar also questioned if there was an attempt to hide some names by the BMC.

"I want to know whether a Maharashtra minister was present at the dinner party organised at Karan Johar's residence here. There is discrepancy in the details of the attendees provided out by the celebrities such as Seema Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Is it an attempt to hide some names?" PTI quoted Ashish Shelar as saying.

On Monday, actors Kareena Kapoor Khan, Amrita Arora and Maheep Kapoor, wife of actor Sanjay Kapoor, tested positive for Covid-19. Two days later, Mahep's daughter Shanaya Kapoor also got infected.

Amid a row over the incident, Karan Johar took to Instagram, saying that his "intimate gathering" with friends was not a "party", adding that his Bandra residence was not a Covid-19 hotspot as claimed. Johar said no one in his family tested positive for Covid-19.

Ashish Shelar said as per information shared with him by BMC officials, Seema Khan did not reveal all the names of people who were present at the dinner.

"The names she omitted came to light when Kareena Kapoor was contacted by BMC officials for contact tracing. It raises suspicion about the exact number of people who attended that party," PTI quoted Shelar as saying.

BMC has been quoted by reports as saying that only eight persons were there for the dinner.

"I wrote a letter to the BMC asking whether it has secured the CCTV footage of the Regency building where Johar resides. If not, why is it delaying it as it would reveal the number of guests present there. I am told by the BMC officials that no such footage has been obtained so far," the former minister further said.

Earlier this week, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said it was not right to be carefree amid the Covid-19 pandemic and called for action against those flouting norms.
