Dengue Outbreak In Uttar Pradesh: Centre Sends High-Level Team To Manage Situation In Three Districts

Uttar Pradesh has registered over 2,200 dengue cases, with state capital Lucknow reporting over 380 cases alone.

A high-level six-member team has been sent to Uttar Pradesh by the Union Health Ministry to collaborate with the state authorities in taking public health measures for dengue management in districts of Firozabad, Agra, and Etawah, reported news agency PTI. Uttar Pradesh has registered over 2,200 dengue cases, with state capital Lucknow reporting over 380 cases alone.

The Central team comprises of experts drawn from the National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control, National Centre for Disease Control, and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital Hospital, New Delhi. 

The team is being headed by Dr VK Chaudhary, Senior Regional Director, Regional Office of Health and Family Welfare, Lucknow.

"Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has decided to depute a high-level multi-disciplinary team to Uttar Pradesh to collaborate with the State Health Authorities in instituting public health measures for Dengue management in Firozabad, Agra and Etawah districts," a government statement said.

The team will be working closely with the state health departments to access the ground situation and recommend the necessary public health interventions to manage the increasing cases of dengue being reported by the state.

The state has been reporting a considerable number of dengue cases recently.

A senior official from the state health department said on Friday that 140 dengue cases were reported on October 13, with Prayagraj recording 46 cases and Lucknow recording 39 cases of the vector-borne disease.

On an average daily basis, the number of cases in Lucknow has been ranging from 35-40, and in Bareilly and Baduan, it has been in the range of 15-20, as per the official.

The official further said that the daily average in Noida is four-five dengue cases and it is 7-8 in Ghaziabad. Approximately two weeks back, the district Jaunpur reported a daily average of 14-15 dengue cases. However, now it has gone down to 8-10.
