NSA Ajit Doval Visits Ground Zero Of Violence-Hit Northeast Delhi; Says Situation Under Control

Concerned over the deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given to Doval the mandate to restore normalcy in riot-hit northeast Delhi.

New Delhi: National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Wednesday reached Maujpur area of the violence-hit Northeast Delhi to take stock of the situation and interacted with local residents after the communal violence that killed at least 22 people in the last four days. Doval visited Maujpur after holding a meeting with senior officials of the Delhi Police at the office of DCP North East. "Situation is totally under control. People are satisfied. I have confidence in law enforcement agencies. Police is doing its work," NSA said while speaking to media while reviewing the situation at ground zero in northeast Delhi. Doval interacted with the local residents of northeast Delhi and ensured their safety. Concerned over the deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given to Doval the mandate to restore normalcy in riot-hit northeast Delhi. While visiting the violence-hit areas, Doval also claimed that Police have taken control of the area and established peace across the national capital. "People have a sense of unity among them, there is no enmity. A few criminals do things like this (spread violence), people are trying to isolate them. Police is here and doing its work. We are here as per the orders of PM Modi and Amit Shah. Inshallah yahan par bilkul aman hoga," Doval said. Immediately after taking over the assignment, Doval undertook a late night tour of the riot-hit areas on Tuesday accompanied by Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and newly-appointed Special Commissioner S N Shrivastava and other senior officers, they said. The NSA visited the affected northeastern parts of Delhi, including Jaffrabad and Seelampur, where he met police officers and gave them necessary directives, besides meeting leaders of different communities to assuage the tensed situation. Shrivastava is believed to have been handpicked by Doval himself after Patnaik faced flak for failing to curb spiralling violence in the national capital in the backdrop of high-profile visit of US President Donald Trump.
